Hi,
I'm pleased to say that after over three years of living in the UK,
Westcoastcdngrl became a British citizen yesterday. This is the culmination of
various visa upgrades and the end of a fairly lengthy bureaucratic process, so
we're both fairly relieved!

Congratulations!

Did she have to take tests and all that? I know in the U.S. there's some kind of history and government civics test you have to pass to get your citizenship, then a ceremony.
What kind of pomp and circumstance do you all have when someone gets sworn a citizen?

Yes, she had to take a citizenship test but that was a couple of steps back in the
visa process.
There's a ceremony in the local municipality, the Mayor normally goes along but
as it happens ours couldn't make it yesterday. Everyone has to swear an oath
and give a pledge, as well as sing the National Anthem.

The citizenship exam that I took just before Christmas '12 was dead easy... I kind of
sort of not really studied for 3 weeks before hand and when I went to do the test, it
took me 6 minutes to answer all 24 questions, go back and re-read the questions and
check my answers, log off of the computer system and grab my coat and purse to
leave the exam room. Even at that, I was the second person to leave.

I had heard that they were going to make the test a little more difficult in 2013 by
adding dates and names of important historical people... I thought "fuck that noise...
I don't want to put in any more effort than I absolutely have to, so I'll do the test
now" and off I went.

After it was done and I was given written confirmation that I'd achieved the required
pass, it was just a matter of throwing a small fortune at the Home Office and waiting
out the required time to get me to my citizenship ceremony.

Congratulations to you both! I'm sorry it took so long, but glad the process is finally complete!

Congratulations! That's wonderful!Enjoy the relief! I'd say more, but I'm dealing with some things, and stopped to see what's going on.
Blessings,
Sarah
